Cavendish schools record an amazing choir track

On 19 September 2018, a choir of approx. 50 singers of all ages, and from across the Cavendish schools, were invited to London to record an original composition called ‘I believe in me’.

Composed in the summer of 2017 by Matthew Potger, Deputy Headteacher and Head of Performing Arts at The Moat School, the song was first performed at their Founders’ Day in September 2017 and its lyrics, uplifting tone and wonderful spirit made it an instant hit.

Gathering pupils together in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary’s Church in Ealing, chosen for its wonderful acoustic space, a  professional mobile recording rig was set up to record the singers at their absolute best and to create a wonderful piece of music.  Listen to the finished track here:

This exciting, inclusive project was designed to support and encourage pupils’ self-esteem and communication through a shared creative performance, and to build strong and positive connections between the schools.

A film crew was on hand throughout the recording day to capture ‘the making of’ the track, to hear from the song’s composer Matthew, and to hear from the pupils themselves about how taking part in the recording of the song had made them feel. Watch the film here:

The ‘Cavendish Schools Choir Project’ has created a foundation for further shared performance opportunities and special thanks goes to all the pupils and teachers for making this event such a truly inspirational success.
